ARTIST STATEMENT

The work investigates organic structures and their internal logic through drawing and painting.

Sara Heinrich lives and works within the nature reserve at the Brunsberg in the Lüneburg Heath. Daily walks through this forest form the material foundation of her practice.

At the core of the drawings stands the entanglement: branches, roots, moss, overgrowth. What initially appears as landscape gradually shifts, in the process of drawing, toward the investigation of structure. Vegetal forms and accumulations evolve into complex formations in which foreground and background increasingly dissolve. Pictorial space emerges less through perspective than through rhythm, layering, and density. The series Interweaving approaches nature not as a counterpart, but as a system of relations – a network in which form arises through connection.

The figurative body of work pursues the same question through the human figure. The body is conceived as a permeable zone – a site where inner and outer worlds, perception and projection, intersect. Animals and vegetal elements appear not as symbols, but as extensions of this same relational field. The figures are marked by a quiet, contemplative presence.

Interweaving describes not only a formal principle, but a fundamental structure of the work: lines, forms, and pictorial spaces interlace to form a network of relations. Across all series, the work circles around fundamental questions of identity, memory, and transience, unfolding through processes of growth, density, and dissolution.

Drawing forms the foundation of the work. Within it, perception and structure condense into line. Painting opens this process, dissolves contours, and shifts the emphasis toward surface, movement, and presence.
